Windowbase protects customers from costly fines

Since May 1999, when the original legislation was introduced, it has been an offence to make unsolicited sales or marketing phone calls to anyone registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) or Fax Preference Service (FPS) listings. Any company found breaching it is liable to be fined up to £5,000, and like speeding you can be fined for every offence, even several on the same day! And it is not just those targeting consumers who should be aware either – many small companies register as individuals and there is also a Corporate TPS (CTPS) for bigger companies, to which the same rules and regulations apply. Unlike other database providers, Windowbase updates customers monthly, reflecting new CTPS, TPS and FPS listings, as well as changes to company information.

Neil Parsonson, General Manager of Windowbase, explains: “Ever since it became law, the numbers registering have been growing. Around 15 million UK phone numbers (both landline and mobile) are registered with TPS or CTPS - so the chances of you calling a restricted number are very high unless you know which ones to avoid. Using Yellow Pages, the internet or many database suppliers leaves you exposed to the risk of being fined large sums, over and over again. Contacting prospects is an essential step in acquiring new customers, but contacting companies by fax or telephone has to be done with care.”
