Window fabricators and installers turn to aluminium![]() Evidence of aluminium’s resurgence can be found in Windowbase, the window industry’s prospect database. Its research shows the number of companies fabricating aluminium windows has grown by 16% over the last five years1. The figure is all the more significant as the total number of window fabricators has fallen by 9.8% over the same period – driven by consolidation within the PVC-U market and companies deciding to stop fabricating and buy-in. “Windowbase has been researching the window market for over 15 years and has more detailed knowledge of fabricators and installers than any other database supplier,” says Neil Parsonson, Windowbase General Manager. “We’re in the business of supplying prospect data, but our database provides a unique record of how the window industry is evolving, including the trends in aluminium system brand usage. Customers use the database to research the market in real time without having to wait for months or years before industry or market reports are analysed and published. They can spot trends before rivals or acquire new customers. Winning business is a lot easier if you have up to date information about prospects before you knock on their door.” According to Windowbase, the number of companies that install windows, doors or conservatories using any material is 12.6% higher now than in 2004. However companies installing aluminium have grown by two thirds, to 4,376. In 2004, 26% of PVC-U companies also installed aluminium, but Windowbase shows this figure has risen to 40%.
“The structure of the aluminium window market has changed significantly over the past five years,” concludes Neil. “It shows the need for both systems companies and fabricators of all materials to keep ahead of the game. for that they need access to reliable information”.
